How can I configure NTP on my GajShield firewall?

Firmware Version: 4.5+

Prerequisite : IP address or domain name of NTP server you would like to use

The Network Time Protocol (NTP) service holds significance as it is employed to synchronize the clocks of computers and other networked devices within a network. Precise time synchronization is crucial in various applications, including:

  1. Network Security: Many security mechanisms, such as SSL certificates and Kerberos authentication, rely on accurate time stamps to ensure that communications are secure.

  2. Distributed systems: Distributed systems often rely on precise time synchronization to ensure that all nodes are working in harmony and to avoid data inconsistencies.

  3. Financial Services: In the financial industry, accurate time synchronization is essential for auditing and compliance purposes, as well as for ensuring that transactions are processed correctly.

  4. Scientific research: In scientific research, accurate time synchronization is important for precise measurement and data collection.

Without NTP, clocks on different devices may drift apart and become inconsistent, leading to errors and potential security vulnerabilities. NTP ensures that all devices on the network are synchronized to a common time source, which helps to ensure accurate and consistent timekeeping across the network.

To use NTP to sync date time with NTP servers in GajShield firewall, you can follow these steps:

  1. Login to the GajShield firewall management console using your admin credentials.

  2. Click on Management -> NTP in the left-hand side menu.

  3. In the right-hand side tab, click on "NTP Servers" and click on '+' to add a NTP server

  1. Add the IP address of NTP Server domain that you would like to use to set the date and time on the firewall. For example, in India, you can use 0.in.pool.ntp.org

  2. Make the required changes to the above fields and click on 'Save' button to save the changes.

  3. Click on the tab 'NTP Service' and restart the service

Once you have saved the changes, the GajShield firewall should now be configured to utilise the NTP server for synchronising its date and time..
