Overview
The GajShield firewall keeps its logs on local storage for a defined retention period, expressed as a number of days. You control this period yourself, so you can balance how much history you want available on the appliance against the storage it consumes. Logs older than the configured number of days are purged automatically, which prevents local storage from filling up over time.
How to configure local log retention
Navigate to Management > Settings > Misc Options in the GajOS web interface.
Locate the log retention setting and enter the number of days you want to keep local logs. Save the configuration to apply it. From that point on, the firewall retains logs for the period you specified and removes older entries automatically.
Choosing a retention period
The right retention period depends on how much storage your appliance has and how much log history you need on hand. A longer period keeps more history available directly on the firewall for troubleshooting and review, but consumes more local storage; a shorter period uses less space but limits how far back you can look. If you need to retain logs for longer than is practical locally — for example, to meet compliance requirements or for long-term analysis — forward them to an external syslog server so the appliance's local retention setting doesn't constrain your overall log history.
